ALNTH

ALNTH is an intentionally curated art collective that sources original works by artists, and supports women’s healing and power.

We provide a space for artists to share and discover compelling love notes, from all corners of the earth, in all different forms. Our process of sourcing “love notes” through submission-based entry is intuitive and deliberate. Through these works, submitted by anyone willing to share, we illuminate the poignancy of memory and uncover the beauty of common scenes, so as to promote reflection and healing upon the viewer.

IT was on a Tuesday in the late morning when I read the words “this is proof” snug up next to a photograph from 1922, as I stood in my favorite antique store. Here is where I felt the power of the written word deeper than ever before. Love notes, holding hands with an image. Her black and white tones whispering to me, through these few letters scribbled on the frame.

I pondered this, and soon began to recall experiencing the feeling, of ‘proof’, when holding physical pieces of my own past. Footage from the family camcorder, voicemails left by loved ones, post-it notes stuck inside my medicine cabinet from my lover. Proof of joy, sometimes proof of trauma. Proof of life, of feeling, of love, of healing. Memories I am reminded of, that constantly flow in and out of my consciousness uninvited. The good and the bad. All my younger years that were filmed on VHS tapes and and all the ones in between that feel blurry and hard to understand.

Here lies a space for us to share proof. From all different lifetimes, perspectives, & interpretations. All the women whose lives are continuously changing and unfolding. And beyond that, to all the people who have experienced a love for ‘her’, and exploring their own interpretation of who she is. ‘Her’ could be a warm breeze rustling through curtains in a window, a song that comes on while you sit in your warm car, fallen petals on your coffee table, the tears of a new mother as she weeps birthing her first child. She is masculine, and feminine. She is all around, all encompassing, she is power. Just as ‘her’ can be personified as many different things, ‘love notes’ can also come in many different forms. This space is dedicated to all the artists who support this theory, and who chose to offer their art to us all. An offering to you, to soak in, internalize, heal, breathe, sit with, admire. May these notes carry you into a realm of love and inspiration, and invite you to recognize, celebrate, and remember her.

(SUBMISSIONS)

Come and share your love notes to her.

Love notes can appear in all different forms, just as ‘Her’ can be identified as many different things. She is a mother, a daughter, a flower, a planet, an emotion, a color, a breeze, a place. This is your space, her space.

STUDIES, a series of photo collections, dedicated to childhood uncovering.

A library of memories, explained in the only way I know how. Where hands meet photographs, as if for the very first time. And words find their way to my lips, and past my tongue. Studies from an unforgiving place, who leave me asking for more. No end is true without a beginning. The first step in the dance. The last note in the tune. So where shall I begin?

THE FOUNDER

Founded by Hannah Shea, a working artist based in the Pacific Northwest. She is also the founder of The Archive, an online education space for film photographers. For the last decade she has photographed original stories and scenes from familiar perspectives. Shea finds herself most inspired by the relationship of photographs and writings holding hands, and the stories that bleed to the surface in spite of it all. ALNTH is a project dedicated to her childhood self.
